Paintings and photography inspired by details of North Norfolk. We are delighted to be showcasing photographs and paintings by gallery owner and artist Chris Harrison.
Chris' new photographic work develops the theme of searching out visual beauty in the often overlooked, ignored and incidental things which surround us in everyday life. Much of the subject matter has been found in working places around Norfolk – workshops, yards, rivers, harbours, farms etc; some is from further afield. He looks for the play of light and shade on different surfaces and textures, the interaction of man's activity with natural processes, the brilliance and subtleties of colour, and the abstract qualities of underlying structure.
Christopher's photographs are produced digitally, and he uses digital enhancements to try to get nearer to the original moment of visual experience.
The paintings, which are the first Chris has produced since setting up Bircham Gallery in Holt twenty years ago, explore some of the abstract ideas that photography has suggested.
Born in Great Yarmouth in 1953, Chris studied Art & History of Art at Reading University. After a career teaching art, history of art and photography he went on to become a full-time painter and then from 1998 to run the Bircham Gallery.
