Nine days of fun, sport, music, arts and well-being.
As well as some now old favourites there are some exciting new things to try out this August in the new Get Active in Fakenham Week which runs from the 19th to the 27th August.
The events kick off with a brand new Music Festival in the town centre on Saturday the 19th. The activities run for nine days and end with the popular Fakenham 25/50/100 cycle ride which is now in its fifth year and which will also have a garden party with music and food.
Organised and hosted by Active Fakenham in partnership with local people and organisations the week aims to showcase what Fakenham has to offer to residents and visitors. All events will be low cost or free. Returning this year will be the Great Fakenham Duck Race, Balkan Dancing, ‘Words Across the Wensum' creative writing workshops, an open day at the Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre, Aquafit, table tennis, PT in the park, yoga, and martial arts tasters.
There are some exciting new additions this year. These include; the music festival, a guided coastal walk with free return transport from Fakenham to Thornham, assertiveness for women training, everyday first aid run by the Red Cross as part of their new programme and a Fakenham photo walk with tips on how to improve your photography. There is even an evening of Mediumship. On Thursday Fakenham Town Councillors will be in the Market place to talk about their role and listen to residents' concerns.
All week local shops, the Fakenham Info Hub and the library will have special offers and displays. People are encouraged to walk round the Thursday market and the Farmers' Market on Saturday 26th. See films of the Fakenham cycle and running races and previous Fakenham events which will run all week at Hughes electrical.
Richard Crook, from Active Fakenham said, “We are very pleased with this year's programme which offers a great range and gives a small taste of what Fakenham can offer. Many of these activities are available all year and this week provides an excellent opportunity to find out more about them or just give it a go. There are limited spaces so booking is advised.”
Heather De Lyon from Active Fakenham added, ‘We hope people will come along and try something new, or support an old favourite by bringing friends and family along too.'
