Deepdale 1940s Weekend

Friday 11th to Sunday 13th May 2018

The crew of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping are preparing to step back in time to the 1940s this coming weekend, Friday 11th to Sunday 13th May. After one of the team suggested celebrating VE Day, ideas began to form and Deepdale 1940s Weekend was born.

With the help of 1st Airborne Div Provost Company LHG and their reenactor friends, Deepdale Backpackers & Camping will become an army camp, complete with guard posts, officers mess, barracks, mess hall, field hospital and more.

Squaddies and civvies alike can enjoy a free 1940s film night on Friday evening, complete with newsreel, two features and of course the National Anthem. Proper ale and gin will be on sale from Norfolk Brewhouse, and the new-fangled Italian food, pizzas, from the Wood Fired Food Co.

On Saturday civilians are welcome to visit the Deepdale Camp, to meet the reenactors, and learn about the war time kit. From 12noon, afternoon teas will be available from The Travelling Bluebird, and Norfolk Brewhouse will be serving all afternoon into the evening.

Ticket holders can learn to swing and jive in the dance lessons throughout the afternoon with Jump Jive & Swing, interspersed with singing from May Blossom, Vintage Songbird.

All comers are welcome to take part in a military drill, there will be weapon demonstrations and street theatre. You can have your hair and make-up done by Hairaid Shelter, and meet Ken and Margaret Garner from the British Evacuees Association to hear their war time stories.

On Saturday evening, ticket holders are invited to enjoy The Daisy Belles in concert in the Brick Barn. Dance the night away with their war time songs. They will be joined by DJ AndyAV8 who will keep the music going between and after The Daisy Belles sets. Arthur Howell Butchers will serving hog roast, The Travelling Bluebird will be serving hot drinks and sweet things, and Norfolk Brewhouse will be serving the drinks.

Sunday is a relaxed day. The reenactors will be parading down to the war memorial to begin the day, at noon there will be a weapons demonstration, and throughout the day visitors are welcome to look around the displays.

We look forward to welcoming you all to Deepdale for the weekend.
