A deep love of music …

… sits at the heart of our Festival Director Chris Haycock’s highly personal approach to the lineup at this, the third Deepdale Festival. His wide ranging musical tastes, together with a commitment to supporting the hugely talented local East Anglian music scene has resulted in our most diverse and hotly anticipated lineup yet!

We’re going to spend the coming weeks introducing you in a little more detail to some of the acts performing at the Festival over the weekend of 26th to 29th September, and while our accommodation is sold out, day tickets are now available here: deepdalebackpackers.yapsody.com

Our very special guest this year is appearing courtesy of a chance encounter last year in Birmingham. Finding yourself sharing a lift with one of your folk music heroes is apparently the best way of introducing you to the possibility of booking him for the Deepdale Festival!

Martin Carthy has been at the beating heart of English folk music since the 1960s. One of the genre’s greatest innovators, he is a ground-breaking acoustic and electric guitarist, ballad singer and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material.

Martin Carthy always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivalled position. Perhaps most significant of all though, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic.

Martin Carthy won the Lifetime Achievement Award with Clannad at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014

Having been recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and described by Q Magazine as ‘arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all’, this is truly an opportunity not to be missed.

Martin Carthy will be performing on our main Brick Barn Stage at 6pm on Sunday 29th September, followed by a signing session. Don’t miss this very special opportunity.

Also appearing on Sunday will be Gentlemen of Few, The Goat Roper Rodeo Band, Smith & Brewer, Marina Florance, Vic Allen, Alton Wahlberg, Bernard Hoskin, The Tin Heart Troubadours, Galli, Rattlebox, Dusky Sunday, Bailey, Keith Sadler and Allie Tooke.
