About Deepdale How to Find Us

Additional Costs

There are two additional costs on arrival depending on where you are staying.  If you are staying in one of the hostels we ask for a £10 key deposit per key which is refundable at the end of your stay once you have returned each of the keys.  If you have paid your booking using a credit/debit card then you can use the credit/debit card details as security against the key and we will only debit your account if you lose the key, alternatively you can pay cash.  If you have paid the booking using cash or cheque then the key deposits will have to be in cash.

If you are staying in one of our tipis, there is a £20 cleaning deposit required which is refundable at the end of your stay if the tipi is left in the same state that you find it and nothing has been broken.

Advance Bookings

We can’t always guarantee we will have a space available so we strongly recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.  We are usually full on bank holidays weekends, many weekends during the year and throughout July and August, so let us know your plans as soon as possible.  If however you turn up and we are full we can try and find somewhere else for you to stay.

In advanced bookings, Friday and Saturday have to be booked together.

Age Limits

Strictly no one under 21 without adult supervision.  Anyone 14 or over is charged as an adult.

Airports

Norwich Airport is the most accessible airport from us.  A few minutes by bus from the centre of the city, the airport is easy to fly to from Amsterdam and a few other European cities.  The main airline is KLM UK.
London Stansted is a short train journey away, to either Norwich or King's Lynn.  Many flight companies fly into Stansted including Germanwings and Ryanair.

Other London Airports - Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton - have good rail links into London and then onto Norfolk.  There is also a regular bus service which links Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted with Norwich, which is called JetLink.

Alcohol

You are welcome to bring alcohol as long as you are aware of our no noise after 10pm policy - see Terms and Conditions.  Both of the hostel kitchens are well-equipped with cork screws and bottle openers.  However, if you are staying on the campsite you will need to bring your own cork screws and bottle openers.

Animals

You might spot the chickens – we sell their eggs in the information centre. We are an arable farm so no livestock is kept here. There is a local petting farm for small children, complete with Deer Safari, which is open for day visitors. The farm dogs are two black Labradors called Guinness and Diggle.

Arrivals - Camping

If, when you arrive the information centre is shut, there will be a notice on the back door with contact numbers and a list of people who haven’t arrived and their pitch number/s. We ask all campers to have set up their tent by 9pm to avoid disturbance to other campers during night time.

Arrivals - Hostels and Tipi

If, when you arrive the information centre is shut, there will be a notice on the back door telling you where to go to find the backpacker who is on call and contact numbers.

August

Camping - In July and August we are only taking advanced bookings for a minimum of 7 nights.

BBQ

There is a built in BBQ in the hostel courtyard for people staying in Deepdale Backpackers to use.  We discourage the use of disposable BBQs and encourage people staying on the campsite to use the metal BBQs we provide around site.

Don't worry, you can buy charcoal at Deepdale Information Centre.

BBQ Nights

From Easter to end of September on Sunday evenings* (*Bank Holidays – the BBQ is on a Monday night) we welcome all our customers (camping or hostelling) to join our staff for a BBQ in the Deepdale Stables courtyard.  Some Sundays we have a quiz.

Beaches

Brancaster is the nearest sandy beach and is located 3 miles away – a short bus ride or 1 hour walk (approx) along the coastal footpath.  The next closest beach, Holkham, has recently been voted the 2nd best beach in Britain and is about a 15 minute drive/bus ride along the coast road or 3-4 hours walk (approx) along the coastal footpath

Bedding and Towels

If you are staying in Deepdale Stables Backpackers Hostel, we provide all of your bedding; you just need to bring your own towels.  Don’t worry if you forget, we sell them in the information centre. If you are staying in Deepdale Granary Group Hostel, please check with the person who booked to see if they have ordered duvets.  If you are staying on the campsite or in the tipis you will need to provide your own bedding and towels.

Booking Procedures

Deepdale Farms will not process any payment if the requested dates are not available. Once payment is processed, a booking confirmation will be sent.

Buses

Please see 'Where is Deepdale?'

Café

Deepdale Café is now open next door in the new Dalegate Market development.  Open every day from 7.30am serving breakfasts, lunches and light snacks.

Camp Fires

We don’t allow camp fires on our campsite due to the huge fire and safety risks.

Cash Machines

The closest cash machine is next door at the Leftley's Costcutter store, they also offer cash back like both the pubs in the village.  There is a Barclays Bank and Natwest Bank in Burnham Market (about 3 miles away).

Check in times

You may check in anytime after 2pm for either hostel, the campsite and tipis.

Check out times

Check out time for both hostels and tipis is 10am, camping is 12 noon.

Children

Well behaved children are always welcome. Hostel visitors with a number of children are encouraged to book our group hostel, Deepdale Granary. It makes everyone’s stay fun while enjoying complete freedom of your own facilities.  However due to many problems we have had with children staying in Deepdale Stables please make yourself aware of our child policy before booking

Credit Cards

We accept the following credit/debit cards:

  • Delta
  • Maestro
  • Mastercard
  • Switch
  • Visa

However we don’t accept American Express and we can’t accept Solo or Visa Electron unless you are actually present.

Deepdale Trails

We have put together a collection of trails including both our countryside stewardship walks and others in the local area.  Details of the walks are available at Deepdale Information.

Disabled Access We have two 6-bed dorms which both have wheelchair access and shower rooms fitted with handrails.  We have adapted the kitchen and living area to offer a low level work surface with cooking hobs.  We also have disabled parking.

Discounts

When you pay for your stay at Deepdale Farm, hostels, camping or tipis, we'll give you a number of discount vouchers that can be used during your stay.  We'll be adding to these over time.

Dogs

All well behaved dogs are welcome here, but sorry not inside either of the hostels or tipis (except guide dogs).  Campers are welcome to bring dogs overnight as long as they are kept on a short lead.

There are 3 countryside stewardship walks around the farm that you can take dogs on.  Again they must be kept on a short lead to avoid disturbance to wildlife.  Dogs are also welcome on all beaches (lead free) except Hunstanton beach in summer, and Wells beach all year round.  Please follow sign directions at the entrance to any beach.

Driving

Please see 'Where is Deepdale?'

E-Top Ups

Leftley's Costcutter next door to Deepdale offers top-ups.

If you want to go horse riding whilst you are on holiday, the closest place to us is about 14 miles away.  There are also a few further afield about 25 miles away.  We produce a horse riding information sheet which you can obtain at Deepdale Information.

July

Camping - In July and August we are only taking advanced bookings for a minimum of 7 nights.

Kite Buggying and Surfing

Brancaster and Hunstanton beaches are both popular.  Even if the wind is in the wrong direction, the shape of the coastline means that often another beach may offer perfect conditions.

Laundry

We have a laundry room available on site for guests to use between the hours of 2pm and 9pm.

Location

Deepdale Farm is in Burnham Deepdale on the beautiful north Norfolk coast.  You can cycle, sail, walk, bus or drive to the front door.

Norfolk is just over 2 hrs from London and access to this part of the world is relatively easy.  Just remember that it's beautiful here because it is rural, so relax and enjoy the journey.  At busy times like Bank Holidays and August journeys times will definitely be longer.

Luggage Storage

For people staying in Deepdale Stables there is a secure luggage storage.  We can store your excess luggage in here whilst you stay with us.

Maps and Books

We sell Ordnance Survey Explorer and Landranger maps in the information centre along with a wide selection of other maps and books.  If we haven’t got the map or book you are looking for then we can order it for you, just ask a member of staff.

Nearest Bank

There is a Natwest and Barclay’s bank (with a cash machine) in Burnham Market or Leftley’s Costcutter (supermarket next door) and both pubs in the village offer cash back.

Nearest Church

St Mary’s Church is directly opposite Deepdale Farm where a service is held every Sunday.

Nearest Pubs

There are two pubs within walking distance, ‘The White Horse’ and ‘The Jolly Sailors’. ‘The White Horse’ has an á la carte restaurant, and ‘The Jolly Sailors’ serves both restaurant and good pub food. Please note that both pubs take last food orders at 9pm. Visit www.burnhamdeepdale.co.uk for more information.

Nearest Supermarket or shop that sells food and drink

A brand new supermarket, Leftley’s Costcutter, is now open next door in our new Dalegate Market development.  Open everyday, selling a large range of food and drinks, plus newspapers and milk, toiletries and frozen foods.

Nearest Take-aways

There is a Chinese take-away in Burnham Market or a Fish and Chip shop in Docking. The closest pizza takeaway is in Burnham Market (only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday) otherwise Fakenham is open more regularly.

Noise

Deepdale is a quiet relaxed place and those making excessive noise after 10pm will be asked to leave without a refund.

Norfolk Coastal Path

The Norfolk Coastal Path runs straight past our doorstep.  It stretches from Hunstanton to Cromer (about 47 miles in length).

Parking

For Deepdale Stables guests, parking is at the back of Deepdale Information.  For Deepdale Granary guests, parking is at the front of Deepdale Information.  For Deepdale Camping and Tipis guests we ask you to park on your pitch/next to your tipi.

If you are coming to walk around the area or visit the village then parking is in the lay by on the opposite side of the road from Deepdale Information.

Pitches We only allow a maximum of 2 pitches to be booked by the same group

Prices

Accommodation prices are stated on the individual sites of our website.

Roman Fort

It’s called Branodunum.  There are no remains of the fort to see. A notice board erected at the side of the coastal path gives you some information about it.

Rooms

In Deepdale Stables all the rooms are en-suite.  We offer private rooms and dormitories.  The private rooms (double, twin, triple and quad) are hired for exclusive use only.  Prices in the dorms are per person.  All dorms are mixed sex rooms unless you specify female or male only or pay for all beds to have exclusive use.

Scolt Head Island

A regular ferry service operates in the summer. For groups at quieter times, call Gary Whittaker on 07776 302413 for more details. It is possible to walk out to the island at low tide BUT DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. The tides can be deceptive and you are likely to get wet or, even worse, cut off from the mainland. The local coastguard has spent many hours searching for lost walkers on the salt marshes and it isn’t a cheap ride home!

Seahenge

This was a 4,000 year old timber circle found on the beach at Holme next the Sea.  It has now been taken up to be preserved.  We sell a book about Seahenge in the information centre as well as greeting cards with a photo of it.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in either of the hostels, however in the Stables courtyard and outside the Granary we provide sand buckets for you to dispose of your cigarette butts.

Specific Pitches

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee specific pitches when you make a booking due to fitting in other bookings around that time.

Spud Nights

From October to Easter on Sundays when the weather is just that little bit too cold for a BBQ, we have Spud Nights.  We supply the potatoes, you bring the fillings.  Backgammon, WARRI, board games and videos follow.  If you are really lucky Alister and Verily will teach you to play Racing Demon!

Surfing

East/West Runton, and its nearby coastline offers the best surfing. Conditions can be checked at www.eastcoastsurf.co.uk

Vending Machine

For people staying with us there is a vending machine on site selling drinks, chocolate, sweets, ear plugs, tampons and condoms. Various sweets and drinks can also be obtained in the information centre and in Leftley's Costcutter next door.

Walking
